Autumn Breakfast

 

Warm sunlight

melting like butter

into toast-crisp leaves

 

Coffee-colored puddles

mingling their rainy aroma

with the steaming, thawing earth

 

Holly berries reddening the ground

turn to jam in a robin’s eager beak.
