Sunset impressions

 

 

A recent sunset brings to mind a painting,

perhaps by Van Gogh

a not so still life 

of apricots and plums

 

spilling into the silver bowl of the sea

with splashes of bold color -

purple and orange

and linear stripes of bright

coral and unexpected cobalt blue…

 

that softens into tints and tones of

lavendar and rose,

and brings to mind a painting

more like a Renoir, perhaps,

 

as curvaceous clouds connect 

with white-gloved hands

like women in repose…

Their forms darken in twilight,

now suggesting a Manet, perhaps,

as they drift off into the night.
