A Swimmer’s Dream

like a water lily,

through the lily pads,

smooth and silent

over smooth and silent stones.

Slow swimming

with the fishes,

skin of silver

scales of gold,

flash and gleam

and intermingle

sand and sea glass

flesh and bone.

Bubbles rise

and streaming

meet, and trail behind

her finned feet

a foaming veil

as white as moonlight

on her body,

on her smooth and silent body,

slow swimming,

with the fishes

dreaming of a mermaid grail.
