Halloween – in Seattle, 2006

 

The beautiful ghost

made from a white lace curtain

and a Japanese mask 

with a wig of long black hair

hung suspended from a wire

strung across a small front garden

of a Queen Anne bungalow

where she floated and swayed

silently in the air

as if in supplication

to a row of grinning pumpkins

down below.
