Oscar Night, Seattle 2012

What I remember about that night

Were the special effects

Of sudden snow

Caught in the light

Of street lamps below

The apartment where we

Gazed out the window

Away from the show

Into the West

And the impossible blue

Of a Maxfield Parrish sky

While the snow

Poured down from street lamps

Like a scene from Midnight in Paris

Or The Artist - silent in black and white.

Later that night

A conjunction

Of Saturn and Venus and the crescent moon

Eclipsed the movie stars and the golden Oscars

Without even trying

That had once seemed to fill the room.
